Meet Lisley

"Having the support and visits of Lisley during this first stage made everything less scary and actually enjoyable, as a preparation to receive our baby girl. Lisley stayed with us until after our baby was born and fed. Her postpartum visits were of great encouragement, and we loved her warmth and sensitivity."

I was born and raised in Brazil, a lovely country in South America, and moved to Vancouver with my partner in 2016. My pronouns are she/her/hers.

I discovered my passion for birth work while I was studying Psychology at the State University of Paraiba, Brazil (UEPB). During the course, one of my professors asked me if I could work coordinating a group of pregnant women that had suffered abuse, and violence in past births. After my first experience in that group, my mind was boiling with ideas and doubts about the obstetric system in my city/country. So, I decided to find resources and people that could help me to find the means to make a difference and to provide a respectful and nonviolent delivery.

I became a doula in 2013 and then started to volunteer as a doula at a Women’s Hospital in my hometown. Meanwhile, along with two friends that shared my belief in women's power and their bodies we decided to create a collective to give support to pregnant women and their families as well as to empower themselves. This collective also worked on promoting conscious birth, postpartum care, and support for women that didn’t have the support of their family in the first moments after their birth. During this time I began to work as professional birth doula and learned even more about this universe that involves childbirth, postpartum care and motherhood.

I’m really excited to restart my practice in Vancouver, a city that has been winning my affection at every passing day. Currently, when I’m not working as a Doula, I like to listen to a lot of Brazilian music, watch tv shows, and last but not least try to cook a lot of new and delicious recipes.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and discovering how we can work at your side.
