Inclusive doula care
Vancouver, BC

Eventide, the shifting of day to night. Changing light, rising and falling tides, a new rhythm. A thread joining together the brightness and fervour of our daytime selves and our nighttime self, burrowed warm and inusulated in a safe space.

Eventide Doula is committed to holistic, accessible, inclusive and evidence-based care.

The name Eventide was chosen to represent the rhythms, changes, contrasts, softening and peace found in birth. Also, to signal, by invoking the safety of coming in from the day to our safe spaces.

Working in Vancouver, BC we acknowledge that we practice on the traditional, unceded, occupied territories of the Coast Salish peoples: the mi ce:p kʷətxʷiləm (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. Our doula practice is an LGBTQIA safe space for people of all gender and sexuality expressions and identifications, as well as all religions, faiths and cultures. We are committed to doula care being accessible and welcome refugee and immigrant families of all residency statuses including undocumented. Eventide doula care provides holistic care that is non-judgemental and aligned with reproductive justice.

Your body, your birth.

Our role as a doula

We work alongside you to support you in having a fulfilling birthing experience.  We meet with you prior to your birth to discuss your hopes, questions, concerns and ideas and are then present for labour and birth. Throughout this time we provide emotional, educational and physical support, taking our lead from you. We can recommend positioning, help with relaxation and breathing, provide tools such as massage tools/oils or simply be someone to talk, laugh and cry with. It is important to us that the doula care we provide is evidence-based as well as holistic (read more about the the evidence for doulas such as fewer interventions and more positive feelings associated with birth, and evidenced-based birth here ) as we believe that education is empowering. When partners are present we can provide support for them also and give advice as to how they can best support you. Having attended numerous births we recognise that no two are the same and that the person giving birth best knows what they want and need. We also understand that birth can be joyful, painful, ecstatic, frightening, peaceful and healing. We will always listen to you and how you are feeling, rather than make assumptions about what birth is for everyone. We are happy to attend births in your home or at hospital, working to make any environment as gentle and warm as you need.

What our care does not do

We do not take the place of partners or other support people, we work with them to support them in being part of the process. We do not perform clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring. While we will work with midwives and other medical staff and are always positive and collegial, it is important to remember that we work for you first and foremost.

Becka Nathan

Bachelor of Education, University of Auckland

DONA International Birth Doula

My approach to teaching mirrors my belief around my doula practice, that I am there to listen, collaborate and facilitate, not direct. I feel passionate about my doula care fostering a safe space for everyone. I also feel strongly about my doula practice being rooted in choice and autonomy.

Lisley Siqueira

Bachelor of Psychology, State University of Paraiba

IPESPQ and DONA international Birth Doula

With two friends that shared my belief in women's power and their bodies, we created a collective in my hometown to give support to pregnant folks and their families as well as to empower themselves. We worked on promoting conscious birth, postpartum care, and support for folks that didn’t have the support of their family in the first moments after birth.
